ARTISTS SELECTED FOR THE SPACE PROGRAM 2012

The Space Program, offered by The Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation along with a Consortium of funders including:  The Milton and Sally Avery Arts Foundation, Inc., The Robert Sterling Clark Visual Arts Space Award, The Richard Florsheim Art Fund Award, The Greenwich Collection Ltd., Agnes Gund, The Joan Mitchell Foundation, INC., and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, announces grants of studio space to 16 visual artists selected from 1100 applicants. A jury consisting of artists Phong Bui, Rochelle Feinstein, Chris Martin, Harriet Shorr and Don Voisine selected the grantees for The Space Program.

The Space Program, a national program began in 1991-located in Tri Beca for 17 years and now in its 5th year in Dumbo, provides free studios that are non-living spaces for the making of new works of art.  

Marie Walsh Sharpe, a Colorado Springs, CO philanthropist, created the Foundation before her death in 1985 to benefit visual artists.   The Foundation’s Artists Advisory Committee: Cynthia Carlson, Janet Fish, Philip Pearlstein, Irving Sandler, Harriet Shorr, Robert Storr and Chuck Close, Emeritus initiated and developed The Space Program in 1991 as a service to artists.  In 2006 Phong Bui, Matthew Deleget and Tara Donovan were added to the Artists Advisory Committee.  Please visit our website at www.sharpeartfdn.org for more information.
